DANCE POSES
I've photographed hundreds of dancers from the cutest baby ballerinas to professional prima ballerinas. We all want to capture that AMAZING SHOT in a captivating pose.
But what I've learned in my years is capturing a great photo of a dancer is a combination of many elements. We want to capture Grace, Beauty, Movement, Agility, Strength and Creativity. Here's some great tips to keep in mind when you want to capture a stunning photo of your dancer.
POSE THE DANCER TO 'THEIR' SKILL LEVEL
Ask a dancer who is new to pointe to do a complicated point pose and you'll not only be putting her feet in jeopardy, but you'll see a strain in her face, awkward foot positioning and legs that are stiff or bent unfittingly to compensate for the dancer's strained effort as they try to make a pose they are not ready for.
Remember, capturing Grace & Beauty in form and expression is more important than trying for something complicated.

SITTING POSES
Sitting poses allow a new pointe dancer to show their form and their beautiful slippered dance toes without putting strain on them. Just make sure they really 'feel' their body expression. Make sure the hands and arms and joints are light and limber. Gentle soft flowing hands and fingers.
ONLY 'ONE TOE' POINTED POSES
There are lots of beautiful standing dance poses that show nice long leg extensions and the beautiful pointe of the toe. In standing poses I like to use the 'twist' in the body along with expression of the hands and arms to create dynamic beautifully creative poses.
THE JUMP
When a dancer is air born, s/he is able to show athleticism with strong legs and a beautiful extension of the legs without having to put weight on the toes. It's dynamic and gorgeous!
THE WARDROBE
What the dancer wears can create the drama and sets the storyline for dance photos! We've curated some magnificent dance wardrobe filled with long flowy dresses, skirts that have been custom designed to be open so the dancer's legs can show beautifully. See some of our Dance Studio Wardrobe below.
